Open to: Social activists, social entrepreneurs, journalists, bloggers and vloggers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Venue: 1– 10 June 2018 in Almaty, Kazakhstan
Almaty Video School is a workshop aimed at developing the skills of young social activists and journalists in filming and editing videos suitable for sharing via social networks. The ability to produce eye-catching and informative video explainers and caption videos is increasingly important for activists, civil society organizations and the media. Such content is one of the best ways to get a message to a wider audience, especially one that is increasingly online and receptive to content with slick production values and a powerful message.
We are looking for applications from young and motivated people who already have an interest in videomaking for social networks and are hungry to learn more.
Over nine days participants from the five Central Asian Countries will benefit from the guidance of our experienced trainers, who themselves create explainer and caption videos every day that are viewed by thousands of people. By the end of the video school, each of participant will have made their own individual video, as well as one video produced in an international groups of three. There will be prizes for the best videos and some participants will be even able to come to Prague for an internship in a leading news organisation.
The school is designed for young people between 18 and 28 years old who already have experience with video and are fluent in Russian.
Important – This event is only open to permanent residents of one of the following five countries: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
We particularly welcome applications from people living outside of the capitals. Applicants with some experience of journalism, blogging, vlogging and/or work in civil society organisations will be given preference.
The training will held in Almaty and the trainers will be professional journalists, specialised in producing videos for social networks, and work at Current Time TV, based in Prague. In addition, we will invite students from School of Journalism of the Ukrainian Catholic University as peer-to-peer mentors. They have already passed the school and will provide advice and support during the work with video and software. Complete the form below by 18 April 2018. Don’t forget that some basic experience of working with videos is a necessary requirement and in one of the questions below we require you to send a link to your work. Shortlisted candidates will be required to pass a Skype interview. You may complete the application form in English or in Russian but you must be professionally fluent in Russian to attend.
