CfP: Multidisciplinary Workshop on Central Asia: ‘Visions of Future in Central Asia: 2030 and Beyond



The Eurasian Research Institute of Hoca Ahmet Yesevi University is pleased to organize multidisciplinary workshop on Central Asia: ‘Visions of Future in Central Asia: 2030 and Beyond’ on March 30, 2018.


We are aiming to bring together leading experts working on this theme from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and organizations, but with a strong emphasis on the regional dynamics with an analytical stance. The meeting will consist of a set of presentation and comments by selected speakers.

Although the following is not an exhaustive list, we particularly welcome manuscripts that address these sub-topics:

  • Energy futures in Central Asia,
  • Drivers of the change in economies of Central Asian countries,
    • Issues related to migration in Central Asia;
     • Old and new security issues in Central Asia
  • Societal challenges and cultural transformations in Central Asia
  • Developments in business and finance sectors in Central Asia
  • Regional integration efforts in Central Asia
  • The future of environmental issues in Central Asia

As a first step, we encourage submissions of original research manuscripts (preferably) or, for work that is less far advanced, extended abstracts (no less than 1,000 words), related to the current issues and future scenarios of Central Asia. 


The second step will be the submission of first drafts (4000-6000 words including references), before the workshop (Deadline for the first draft is March 28, 2018 at the latest, so that we can circulate the papers among participants). Final version of the papers are due April 30, 2018. Please note that all accepted and presented papers will be published as an edited book. Partial travel grants are available for participants outside Almaty, and accommodation costs (up to 2 night) will be covered by the Institute.
