Open Call for Youth Debates

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is the largest development partner of Azerbaijan with over $5 billion of total approved assistance. Azerbaijan has become member of ADB in December 1999. 20-year of Azerbaijan and ADB partnership will be celebrated in late 2019 along with 15-year anniversary since the establishment of ADB’s Resident Mission (AZRM) in Baku. As part of anniversary events AZRM is announcing an open call for participation in Youth Debates to provide opportunities for young people of Azerbaijan to discuss the national development issues.

 

If you are an individual or a team of three aged between 16-25 and are interested to participate in the Debates – please lodge your application through below links:

before the deadline: by 18:00 pm of 1 September 2019. Early application and the team composition with mixed sex - F\M are encouraged and might be considered as an advantage during selection process.

 

 

Debates will be in English language. Debates follow Asian Parliamentary style - 3 debaters per team. For your better understanding of the process, here is a link to a video guide explaining the rules:

All teams entering must be available to compete on 12 October 2019

 

Date of the Debate:    12 October 2019

Starting time:              10:00 am.

Venue:                         ADA University

Team composition:     3 persons

Theme:                        ADB’s role in Azerbaijan’s development over the last 20 years

Topics:                        3 envelopes with 3 topics around the Theme will be unsealed at start

Fee:                             free of charge

 

8 main and 2 back-up Teams will be selected to participate in the debate simulation. Only selected teams will be contacted. Trainings for selected participants will be conducted in September 2019 at ADA University premises. Study Guide will be shared after selection process.

 

Prizes: The 3-members of winning Team will receive ADB-made prizes. In addition, the following awards will be distributed among the 3 members of winning Team based on individual performances:

  1. a) One-month practicum at AZRM;
  2. b) Recognition/Recommendation letter from ADB’s Head of Mission in Azerbaijan; and
  3. c) Invitation to one of ADB-hosted Receptions.
