Are you a curator from Turkey? If so this might be perfect for you!Grants 06.06.2018
The British Council is offering an opportunity for local curatorial professionals to curate the third edition of our digital gallery 'Museum without Walls'. The virtual gallery space has successfully hosted exhibitions of works from the British Council Collection. The selected curator will also have the opportunity to travel to the UK, work alongside experienced visual arts professionals to develop his/her exhibition concept and selection.
Our first digital exhibition, I Dreamed A Dream The Other Night , curated by Elif Kamışlı, won 4 awards including 'Best Website' at the 15th Golden Spider Web Awards in 2017. The second exhibition, You Look Familiar , curated by Ulya Soley, opened in January 2018. It reached more than 150k visitors in 3 months.
We are delighted to launch the third open call for curators and museum professionals.
Exhibition concept based on the theme of ‘Woman’
As the British Council we believe that the empowerment of women and achievement of gender equality are crucial to creating inclusive, open and prosperous societies. This year we initiated a three years programme to recognise and celebrate women power in arts and culture in Turkey. To learn more please visit the programmes web page.
Accordingly, the selected curator will be asked to develop an exhibition concept based on the theme of ‘Woman’ using works from the British Council Collection and also works of artists from Turkey. For this exciting new phase we are seeking an unconventional curatorial approach that would embrace different art forms such as music, film, performance, etc enhancing the exhibition visitors’ experience on the digital.
The jury is comprised of Media Theorist, Independent Curator Assoc. Prof. Ebru Yetişkin, Head of British Council Collection Moira Lindsay and British Council, Head of Arts Turkey Esra A. Aysun.
Closing date for the open call will be 1 July 2018.
The British Council also offers an opportunity to the selected curator to go the UK to develop his/her exhibition concept together with British sector professionals and to see the original works at the British Council Collection.
The curatorial visit plan will be devised together with the selected curator and the British Council Arts team in Turkey.
