Vacancy for Principal Researcher (Future of Work) in London

Salary: £46k pa + excellent benefits

Fixed-term 12-month contract (maternity cover)

If so, Nesta has an exciting opportunity for a Principal Researcher to join a Future of Work programme which supports governments and experts to design policy and solutions that support future and digital skills development.

About this key role

Our successful candidate will focus on building on the team’s work to date creating evidence, practical tools, materials and codified case studies that demonstrate what good practice in skills policy looks like and how it can be implemented. This will involve leading the future of work research agenda to inform better policy design and taking responsibility for the development of new research proposals for international partners. You will also be expected to:

  • Produce original research on lifelong learning and inclusive skills for people in work
  • Represent Nesta at expert meetings and high-level policy events around Europe
  • Lead and develop robust evaluation frameworks that inform policy dialogues and stakeholder decisions  
  • Write concise and engaging policy briefings, discussion papers, presentations and blogs
  • Produce outputs that bring together lessons learnt from the programme for a non-specialist, international audience
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest thinking about the impact of technology on jobs
  • Develop and maintain the programme’s expert network, identifying relevant research questions and ensuring the team stays at the cutting edge of future skills work and insight

What we are looking for

Educated to a minimum Masters level, you will have senior experience relevant to the work of the programme and expertise in future skills, lifelong learning, adult education, and labour market challenges, with a track record of working in policy and research in this area. You will also have experience of designing and executing experimental research designs with a range of stakeholders and leading on the production of research outputs for multiple audiences.

An original and creative thinker who is excited about exploring new forms of outputs and methods of research, you must also have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, while strong attention to detail and a collaborative approach to your work are also vital.
